Drobo Dashboard and Firmware 1.0.2 Goes Public

After two and a half weeks as a DroboSpace Community exclusive, Data Robotics is taking the wraps off the new and improved Drobo Dashboard and Firmware version 1.0.2. As of today, the software upgrades will become available to all Drobo owners as an update through the existing Drobo Dashboard.

The new software and firmware comes chock full of performance upgrades, bug fixes, and new features. For those not already running version 1.0.2, you can get a list of improvements and enhancements here: Drobo Firmware and Drobo Dashboard 1.0.2 Release Notes

According to a post by a Data Robotics employee, this firmware update will cause the Drobo to re-optimize existing data on the drive, so users may notice reduced performance immediately after upgrading. Once the optimization is complete (times vary depending on the amount of stored data), the Drobo will resume normal operation with improved performance.

1.0.2 also supports some new APIs that allow Drobo owners to get more from their Drobo Data Robots by creating their own custom applications and enhancements. Drobo owners are encouraged to share these hacks and mods in the new DroboHacks area here at DroboSpace.com. Those looking to make a some loose change creating DroboHacks should check out the current Drobo Bounties.

Drobo update causes major issues. Friday night I was prompted to update the firmware on my Drobo to the new v1.0.2 Since then my drobo has been blinking all the red lights and blue lights and has been inaccessible. I called drobo support 3 times and they have not been able to offer me a solution yet. I can't access my "protected" data and I am very very annoyed... Please help.

I wanted to add that the person at Drobo support that I spoke to yesterday said that this issue was affecting many drobo users. He said that no one was around to address it due to it being the weekend, but it had been escalated due to its severity... Still no updates.... I am very disappointed...

Same thing, my mac is asking to re-init the drive and the drobo dashboard is telling me that 0B for data/expansion/protection and overhead). It looks like I lost 1GB of songs/movies/data. I sure hope that there is a simple software fix to get this back!

Still waiting for a resolution...

My workgroup server is in serious pain after the update -- at a minimum, the company should disable the auto-update patch.

I hit 'ok' on my keyboard this morning (minor update!), only to have spent the last 3 hours trying to get my machine back in order...  meanwhile, the staff waits.

Agreed, that should have been the first thing they did after realizing the update was causing problems.

Going on day 4 without having access to my data...

day 5, still no access to data.

I guess I'm lucky as when I try and hit update, it says can't connect... sticking with 1.01 for now then :)

Issues for me too on Mac OS X 10.4.10. Since the update to 1.0.2, it won't mount the drive. Disk Utility will spin for a very, very long time and never show any drives unless I unplug the USB ot the drobo. Then it shows a phantom Drobo that nothing can be done to. Drobo Dashboard stays on "Ready for Connection." Several reboots, no help. I am hopeful that the data is still there since drobo panel shows green lights, and the blue space use indicator is about where it was before the update. Drobo - help us! This is very, very bad news if the data is gone...

Good news (for me, anyway). I left my Drobo connected all day, and set my Mac to not go to sleep. When I returned from work today, the Drobo was mounted and all my data was there. I suspect that the Drobo needed to repair itself after the 1.0.2 install for some reason, and my Mac was falling asleep everytime before it was done (one hour).

I did the update, first for the OS, then for the Dashboard on my Mac. It had some installation problem for the Dashboard and now I can't even start it. It tells me:

You cannot open the application "Drobo Dashboard" because it is not supported by the system.

It seems the download may have been corrupted. Can I re-download it somewhere? I don't have my original Drobo CD. The installer it saved to the folder says it is expired when I try to run it. Why don't you provide a site where the drivers can be downloaded manually? I can actually run the v1.0.2 Dashboard from the shell prompt if I go into the .app directory and run the binary. Just not from Finder.

Downloading the OS seemed to work. My Drobo churned for many hours and now my fan is loud alot. Hopefully I just need to wait longer?

From all the problems it seems Drobo has not tested this update thoroughly.

Sorry you had issues with your update process, valankar. I'm not quite sure what happened in your particular situation, but I assure you that we extensively test each release before making it generally available to you. We've had thousands of updates occur and this is the first behavior of this kind I've seen.

If you do suspect that the install was corrupted, I recommend that you completely uninstall Drobo Dashboard and then reinstall it again. We actually do make the latest version of Drobo Dashboard available for download off of the support section on our website. Here is the specific link for the Mac version of Drobo Dashboard

Thanks Mary, I was able to download the drive and reinstall it. It is working fine now.
