Is there any plan to add droboshare support?
Droboshare support
Here is another vote for DroboShare support. As far as I can tell, DroboShare works only with PCs and Macs (using the Dashboard provided by Drobo, which only exists for PCs and Macs)
Thus, us Linux users have no way of seeing Drobo over the network (NAS) and can only use it as directly attached storage (DAS).
Are you planning on adding DroboShare support?
Thank you.
I don't have a droboshare, it sounds like a cool box, not too expensive.
I don't grok what is wanted... droboshare surely either presents a windows share or an NFS mount point. If using windows share, just setup samba on your linux clients, or nfs client. I don't understand what droboshare support in a dashboard gets you...
IMO, the droboshare should have a webface to do any necessary management, and not required a desktop dashboard at all. That would be cleanest/most multi-platform, least work over long run. like how wifi routers tend to work. For all I know that's how droboshare already works.
Yes, the droboshare presents a windows share via samba. As for what droboshare support, it will of course show the status of the disks, and allows for firmware upgrades.
The droboshare has no web interface, it's managed from the drobo dashboard. http://popey.com/~alan/drobo/019_drobo_droboshare_format.png is a screenshot of what it looks like to format a droboshare attached drobo. Of course you also get to see how long it has left for rebuilds when you yank a disk or insert a new one:- http://popey.com/~alan/drobo/020_drobo_rebuilding.PNG
So it is just as useful as the drobo dashboard with a locally attached drobo. I guess the droboshare/drobo dashboard uses some kind of avahi/zeroconf/bonjour style protocol over the network.
