RE: Drobo Dashboard 2.8.5 breaks MacOS Screen Sharing
btw guys, do you know if the mac uses open gl?
maybe the issue (or a temporary way forward) has something to do with this?

(btw i have XP home SP2, a Drobo v1 with 2x 1TB/2x 1.5TB WD greens, & a bkp Drobo v2 with the same + a DroboShare: unused)
& a DroboS v2 with 3xWD15EADS &2x1TB in DDR mode on win7, & a drobo5D (all usb)
  • btw i did a sustained (write) operation for about 6 hours, and got 13.2MB / sec ...objection? "sustained" :)
    (16.7MB/s on a v2 & 47-96MB/s drobo-s)

The dashboard has at least two issues:
- constantly redrawing it's window (don't know - have not done any openGL stuff myself)
- requiring the dedicated GPU. This is only a small build flag to enable the integrated GPU for an openGL app. Mobile Macs use the dedicated GPU as a default if the app uses openGL. But since this is no demanding game with sophisticated graphics....this should not be necessary and COULD BE FIXED IN 5 SECONDS.

thansk jemi2,

Thanks for the info! I did install my server last weekend and I stopped short when I saw the 3.0.0 version tag....but didn't think about it afterwards. Smile

Quick test:
1) Idle Desktop: UL <50KB
2) Drobo Dashboard open: UL ~500-600KB
3) Drobo Dashboard closed: UL <50KB

So nope. Still a bandwidth hog.

UPDATE: Device discovery is pretty fast.

RE: Drobo Dashboard 2.8.5 breaks MacOS Screen Sharing
Well things went from bad to terrible with 3.0 dashboard. The Drobo Dashboard 3.0.0 on my Mac mini refused to find the attached Drobo (4 bay Gen 3) even though the volumes were mounted on the Mac. Also the Drobo drive icons were missing - just the default Mac ones instead. And on top of that, the Mac was very unresponsive (direct access, not using screen sharing) and the Drobo backup volume was showing errors that the Mac Disk Utility could not fix.
I tried installing the 3.0.0 dashboard on my MacBook Pro and connecting the Drobo to the Mackbook Pro. Same issue.
I then tried the same connecting the Drobo to a Windows 10 laptop with the 3.0.0 dashboard. On windows, the 3.0.0 dashboard was able to discover the Drobo but as the volumes are formatted for Mac, is was not, of course, able to mount them.

So I have reverted to 2.8.1 - all my problems go away with that version.

If I had to guess - The part of the 3.0.0 dashboard that probes to find an attached Drobo was the cause of the issue, that would explain both the fact the dashboard could not find the Drobo, and, perhaps how the dashboard could cause disk issues?

Drobo is firmware version 3.5.4 [11.50.86645]

RE: Drobo Dashboard 2.8.5 breaks MacOS Screen Sharing
cool for jemi (at least on one front)
but oh no for leakh.. ill hold off more advice for now then Smile

one thing though.. .another user just recently mentioned that they were not able to see the drobo in dashboard after updating it to v3, but a restart of the drobo, mentioned here, got things working again (at least from the visibility point of view)

(you probably did restart but just to mention)

RE: Drobo Dashboard 2.8.5 breaks MacOS Screen Sharing
Update - I eventually braved the 3.0.0. update again after reading other threads with similar problems, where it was determined that a reboot of the Drobo was needed after the 3.0.0 dashboard update.

Since then I have not had a problem with the new dashboard (3.0.0) and it seems to have cured the issue I was having with the 2.8.5 version.
