Replaced drive with smaller drive
I had 3x6tb and 1x8tb in my drobo. This wasn't ideal as the 8tb lost like 2tb for "future expansion". Additionally I didn't need that much space on that drobo (I have multiple Drobo running).

So, I took out the 8tb and put in a 4tb. I'm sitting at about 20% space free but my drobo is Red, telling me the following:
"Drobo cannot protect your data against hard drive failures until you provide at least 3 hard drives for single disk redundancy...etc etc.."

The Drobo has adequate space and adequate number of drives of appropriate sizes. Why is it showing RED?

RE: Replaced drive with smaller drive
hi darkfalz, can i check which drobo this is for, and if you are using the default single SDR redundancy mode, or if it is the dual DDR mode?

(btw i have XP home SP2, a Drobo v1 with 2x 1TB/2x 1.5TB WD greens, & a bkp Drobo v2 with the same + a DroboShare: unused)
& a DroboS v2 with 3xWD15EADS &2x1TB in DDR mode on win7, & a drobo5D (all usb)
  • btw i did a sustained (write) operation for about 6 hours, and got 13.2MB / sec ...objection? "sustained" :)
    (16.7MB/s on a v2 & 47-96MB/s drobo-s)
