Lightbulb Replacing a drive - no results on search
To replace a drive in the 5D, with the unit on, do I just remove the drive I don't want and then add a new drive?

I tried the manual and a search returns 0 results. Same with the forums. I'm sure it's there, but Drobo does a good job hiding the information.

RE: Replacing a drive - no results on search
Yes, it's that easy...just swap it out while it's running and the rebuild process will begin. It will incorporate the new drive into the rest of the array. Rebuild time is about 1 TB/day average. If doing more than one drive, wait for the rebuild to complete before inserting another.

** Keep in mind any data on the inserted drive will be erased. **

RE: Replacing a drive - no results on search
hi montylee, just to follow on from dragon, i had a look at the manual and found this page in case it helps:
http://manuals.drobo.com/#t=5D_Adding_Ca...http://manuals.drobo.com/#t=5D_Adding_Capacity_(or_D

i see what you mean about looking hard to find, as it was under the manuals.drobo.com
which is found under the heading of Online User Guide,
which is found on the actual 5d product page here Smile
http://www.drobo.com/docs/start-5d/

(btw i have XP home SP2, a Drobo v1 with 2x 1TB/2x 1.5TB WD greens, & a bkp Drobo v2 with the same + a DroboShare: unused)
& a DroboS v2 with 3xWD15EADS &2x1TB in DDR mode on win7, & a drobo5D (all usb)
  • btw i did a sustained (write) operation for about 6 hours, and got 13.2MB / sec ...objection? "sustained" :)
    (16.7MB/s on a v2 & 47-96MB/s drobo-s)
