DRI Unveils New Resource Package for DroboHackers

Today DRI has provided the DroboSpace Community with an all new DroboHack Resource Package intended to aid DroboHackers and modders looking to write a management application for Drobo. The all new "Drobo Management Interface Protocol Resource Package" includes: A readme file Instructions for getting started and how to use the other files in the package. Drobo Management Protocol Specification-external.doc (DMPS-e) rev A.0 03/08: Description of the protocol used by host applications to manage Drobo. droboprotocoldefs.h rev A.o 03/08: Definition of data structures and constants used in the management protocol. drobo_examples.tgz Sample code for retrieving Drobo capacity information and configuration. Tested on Fedora Core 8. Along with this new resource, the Windows only 'Drobo Transport Manager Resource Package' also received an update earlier this week. Both packages require Drobo Dashboard and Firmware 1.1.1 or greater. You can download the DroboHacks resource packages here.

Data Robotics Releases Drobo 1.0.3 Firmware Update

Data Robotics today announced the release of Drobo Firmware 1.0.3, which is now available for download through the Drobo dashboard. Unlike the firmware update unveiled last month, 1.0.3 is focused on resolving a smaller set of issues being reported by users here in the DroboSpace forums. Most importantly, 1.0.3 should resolve a problem causing Drobo to pause data transfer every ten minutes or so, which has apparently gotten more noticable since the last update. 1.0.3 Release Now Available!

Greetings Drobo Fans! I’m happy to share some exciting news with you! As of today, you’ll find the latest 1.0.3 Drobo Firmware ready and waiting to be installed. I realize that this update comes on the heels of the 1.0.2 release, but we felt that it was important to get it out because of the impact it had on your workflow. This patch addresses a known issue in 1.0.1 which was difficult to come across with 1.0.1, but manifested itself more frequently with the 1.0.2 Drobo Firmware release. The problem was users would experience pausing every 10 minutes when accessing files from Drobo. The 1.0.3 patch addresses this specific issue. You can read the full 1.0.3 update release notes here . For those of you who have opted out of the automatic notification, you will have to go to the Advanced Controls Panel > Tools Tab and click on the “Check for Updates” button. Drobo Dashboard and Firmware 1.0.2 Goes Public

After two and a half weeks as a DroboSpace Community exclusive, Data Robotics is taking the wraps off the new and improved Drobo Dashboard and Firmware version 1.0.2. As of today, the software upgrades will become available to all Drobo owners as an update through the existing Drobo Dashboard. The new software and firmware comes chock full of performance upgrades, bug fixes, and new features. For those not already running version 1.0.2, you can get a list of improvements and enhancements here: Drobo Firmware and Drobo Dashboard 1.0.2 Release Notes According to a post by a Data Robotics employee, this firmware update will cause the Drobo to re-optimize existing data on the drive, so users may notice reduced performance immediately after upgrading. Once the optimization is complete (times vary depending on the amount of stored data), the Drobo will resume normal operation with improved performance. 1.0.2 also supports some new APIs that allow Drobo owners to get more from their Drobo Data Robots by creating their own custom applications and enhancements.
