Create a Drobo Dashboard management application for Linux
Bounty: $2000 USD
Standard: This application must provide the same features and functionality as the current shipping version of Drobo Dashboard for Mac and PC
To qualify for the bounty that Data Robotics is offering you must deliver software that meets the following requirements:
Software Functionality
- A library of routines to access the Drobo management protocol, eg libdrobo. The library should allow for multiple Drobo units connected to a single Linux system. It should not make assumptions that USB is the only mode of connection.
- A command-line tool or a set of command-line tools to allow shell scripts to retrieve information from a Drobo. This should allow the retrieval of space utilization information, drives in the array, status info, etc.
- A GUI tool, using at least GTK+, which provides functionality similar to the Drobo Dashboard.
Packaging
The software must be delivered as a standard Unix/Linux .tar.gz file that can be downloaded by anyone and built using configure and make. Data Robotics will do that and test the functionality before making any awards to anyone.
Licensing
The software should be distributed under the GPL or BSD licenses.
Widgets (Mac, Vista, Yahoo, or Google)
Bounty: $100 USD
Standard: Create a widget which has the ability to gather information from the array via the transport manager API to create an application which allows the user to be able to access important status information on the array. For example, capacity utilization (used, free, total), status lights for drives, # and drive sizes in array, volume name, temperature, and alert notifications.
Hack reputable, qualified*, third-party NAS appliances to work with Drobo
Bounty: $250 USD
Standard: Modify existing NAS appliances to recognize and function with a Drobo connected via the integrated USB port on the back of the NAS appliance.
*Send your proposals to the bounty committee at drobohacks@drobo.com for consideration.
Other details:
- These bounties are a community style thing that is just a way to put a little money back into the Drobo community as a token for our appreciation. We hope and expect for people to collaborate, split bounties and credit and share information, etc. The deliverables and rules are sketchy and the interpretation is completely subject to the whim of the bounty committee.
- The judgment of the bounty committee is final. They might decide a bounty should not be issued at all, or split or something else. They will interpret the words "work”, “usable”, “ability to”, etc. Usable might mean that they can use it, or it might mean that only alpha geeks can use it.
- Who is this bounty committee? The bounty committee is comprised of select members from the DroboSpace Community and the Data Robotics team.
